Privacy and help
Privacy and your data
Sloth has no account, no telemetry, no update checks and no iCloud sync. Audio and transcripts stay on your Mac; meeting content leaves only when you pick a hosted summary provider, a hosted dictation provider, or turn on a feature that uses one.
What Sloth doesn't do
- No account. There's nothing to sign up for.
- No telemetry. Sloth is built without an analytics ID, and its analytics code does nothing.
- No update checks. Sloth has no automatic or manual update check.
- No iCloud or iPhone sync. Sync is switched off in Sloth, and its settings are hidden.
- No meeting bot. Nothing joins your calls.
What connects to the internet
- Model downloads. Speech models download from Hugging Face or Muesli's model mirror when you first use them.
- Providers you choose. Summaries, and dictation if you choose a hosted provider, go to that provider. See the table below.
- Calendar. Sloth reads calendars through macOS. Your calendar accounts sync the way they always do; Sloth doesn't connect to Google Calendar itself.
Where your data lives
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Meetings, transcripts, notes and dictation history | ~/Library/Application Support/Sloth/muesli.db |
| Settings, API keys and sign-ins | config.json and separate credential files in ~/Library/Application Support/Sloth, readable only by your user account |
| Saved meeting recordings (off by default) | ~/Library/Application Support/Sloth/meeting-recordings/ |
| Notes and transcripts as Markdown | Your Sloth folder, ~/Documents/Sloth by default |
| Audio during a recording | Temporary files on your Mac, cleaned up if left behind |
| Speech models | ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/Models, ~/Documents/huggingface/models (Whisper) and ~/.cache/muesli/models (some others) |
Sloth never reads or writes Muesli's folders, so the two apps can sit side by side.
If your Sloth folder is inside a synced location such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox, that service syncs your notes. Sloth doesn't.
What leaves your Mac, per summary provider
Every hosted provider receives the same meeting material: the title, transcript, your jottings, the template, earlier notes in the thread, and on-screen context if you turned on Meeting context.
| Provider | Sent to |
|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude API key) | Anthropic, using your API key. |
| Claude Code (your subscription) | Anthropic, through Claude Code, with whatever Claude Code loads from the run folder. With lookups on, the services behind Claude's connectors too. See How Sloth keeps Claude Code safe. |
| ChatGPT | OpenAI, using your ChatGPT sign-in. |
| OpenAI, OpenRouter, Custom LLM | That service. |
| Ollama, LM Studio | The server at the address in Settings. By default that's on your Mac, so nothing leaves. |
| Apple Intelligence (on this Mac) | Nothing leaves your Mac. |
If a Claude Code run fails, the stand-in provider (Anthropic or Apple Intelligence) receives the same material.
Other features that can send text
- Hosted dictation. Choosing OpenAI or OpenRouter in Settings › Dictation › Speech recognition sends your dictated audio there. The default, Local, doesn't.
- Dictation cleanup. If you turn on AI transcript cleanup and pick a hosted Cleanup source, dictated text goes to that provider.
Deleting your data
- Delete a meeting from its … menu. Its Markdown files move to
.trashin your Sloth folder. - Settings › General › Clear meeting history removes all meetings, notes, transcripts and saved recordings from Sloth. Clear dictation history does the same for dictations.
- To remove everything, quit Sloth and delete
~/Library/Application Support/Slothand your Sloth folder.
